Himachal Pradesh is a state in Northern India. It is spread over 21,495 sq mi (55,673 km²), and is bordered by the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab on the west and south-west, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on the south, Uttarakhand on the south-east and by the Tibet Autonomous Region on the east. The literal meaning of Himachal Pradesh is Region of snowy mountains.

Tarna Devi temple is one of the oldest temple in the Mandi district which was built in 17th century by Raja (King) Shyam Sen, who was the great devotee of kaali , after a particularly trying time when goddess gave him a success. Tarna Devi temple also known as Shyama Kaali temple and is located on the top of the Tarna Hill in Mandi district. Being placed on the top of the hill the entire town is visible from the top. There are two way to go there, one is to by road and the other is by stairs, there are 305 stairs in the path.
